  • Business Plan

We plan on offering a variety of different cultural foods and desserts. We plan on attending the state fair. We will leverage social media and connecting with people in the community. We want to do community events and cater for businesses. My name is Tasha, and along with my parents we decided to open a family restaurant. We’ve always talked about it, but never had the financial opportunity to until I recently sold my great grandmother’s home in Maui, Hawaii. I purchased the home from my parents because they were wanting to move out of state. I’m one out of seven children. However, in 2015 at the age of 25 I was the only sibling at the time that had the opportunity to purchase the home given my good job and credit history. I never imagined I moved to Alaska but here I am. When my husband and I first moved here 2 1/2 years ago we didn’t have intentions of selling our home, but of course things changed, and we decided to sell and use the profits to start a few businesses, one being this restaurant. I wanted to give my parents back what they had gifted me in equity, but in the form of a business. That way they can leave a legacy for my siblings like they’ve always wanted to. Ohana Grindz, our restaurant, has been open now for three weeks. Up to this point we haven’t made any loans because I invested close to $100,000 in cash for improvements, equipment, product, and preparation. That being said, I also ran credit cards for business and personal expenses. What’s it make a long story short we’re unable to borrow from the banks because we have a high credit card usage, which sucks but here we are. So I’m asking for Support being that we cook some killer Hawaiian food. The whole community is raving about us. It would be such a shame to shut our doors because we don’t have the ability to borrow money even though our payment history has been good it’s our credit usage that is high. There is so much potential in the city that we’re in being that there’s not a lot of food options, we have a unique style of cooking that can’t be offered in other restaurants so our competition is very low and my family is the most warm and welcoming people you’ll meet especially here in Alaska. We are going to stick it out as long as we can regardless of whether we receive a grant or not but man would it be awesome if we could get support. I hope our story moves you, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
