Funding Usage
This funding would be used to completely finish my basement for my business to occupy. Currently, my business resides in my formal dining room of my home. It is the location where five children plus myself all operate daily for learning and engaging in activities. Having a basement space will allow more square footage for children to run, and enjoy centers, and for me to provide more activities for engagement. In completing a basement, there are some requirements from the state in order to maintain my license as a certified Home Daycare. I would to expand one of the windows to make it up to fire code. My basement occasionally gets water, so I would want to install sump pump to prevent any water from coming in. Also, a daycare business requires a bathroom, so I would need to put an up flush for my system for my basement. Lastly, my basement would need a counter area for me to wash children’s hands, along with breakfast and lunch dishes. After those bigger things are addressed in my basement, it will need typical needs of the basement. Such as, flooring , walls, insulation, ceiling, lights, etc. all of the basic stuff. I am not looking to do anything fancy. Just a blank space to really add creativity in a daycare setting that can be used for years to come.

Business Plan
I plan to grow my business in the next five years by operating at full capacity that the state allows currently. Right now I do not feel that my space is adequate for a full capacity load of students. I also plan to add a lot more learning activities and centers for children to be highly engaged in their daily daycare environment. I plan to offer a wide range of services for parents to promote a safe and welcoming space. Investors should invest in me and my business for a multitude of reasons. My business model focus is mainly on educator parents. I was once in an inner city middle school teacher for eight years before becoming a parent, and opening up my small, in-home daycare business. I fully recognize the challenges of sending a child to Day Care, and having a teacher salary. Many big box operations require payment on days that teachers do not work and could watch their own children. For example, summer break, winter break, snow days, etc., my business model focuses on supporting educators. Not requiring hefty payments, and not requiring them to pay for childcare on days where they can watch their own children. I felt after my eight years of teaching, and seeing many of my Teacher friends become parents, truly stress over Day Care payments for the summer, and other strict requirements that many daycare require. My audience for my business, support educators, hence the name, Teacher Tots. Besides, the fact that I have this educator model in place… I feel that my daycare space and daily routine, is a step above a typical daycare. Working with six children at a time, and up to nine with my assistant, is a small group model. We are a cohort of children, who are exploring, artsy, musical, musically driven, and wiggly youngsters. Having the small group size of children, truly helps me narrow down, children’s needs, and help them flourish to their fullest potential. I focus on readiness for elementary school, but not any regimented format. I use a lot of Reggio inspired, children led learning beliefs, while also including so many preschool standards that you typically see in a more standard preschool setting. I truly focus on the full child, teaching them, empathy and sympathy, social skills, and emotional skills, personal basic life skills. After working in a middle school for so many years, it was attached to an elementary school, seeing children come into kindergarten, without these basic foundational social skills truly inspired me for how I want to teach my own children, and daycare children to care for others.

Self Identified Competition
My top three competitors would be big box daycare companies, local, community centers, and other home daycares. They all offer a wide range of services to help care for children. What makes small business model, different I am focused on educator parents, and school based professionals. I offer incentives to help,, daycare can be extremely costly. After being a public educator for eight years, I am totally aware of what these bigger box operations can catch families for. I truly believe in establishing an incredible home and daycare connection. I build individual plans for each child to help them succeed in growth, not just an academics, but socially and emotionally. I get to know my clients, my families, but a much more personal level, and to be an extension of how they are raising their children at home.
