Kitty's Catfe | Application Preview

  • General Information

    Business Registration Number: 92-1406285

Location: Washington Court House, OH, United States

    Length of Operation: 1-5

    Number of Employees: 1-10 Employees

Annual Gross Income: Less than $100k

Annual Gross Expense: Less than $100k

    Open to Loans: YES

  • Funding Usage

Our intention is to pay off two loans and make other expenses current. The balance would be used to invest in a larger ice machine, a freezer, and a commercial blender (so that we can expand into offering smoothies) and rolling capital. I can offer a breakdown, but we're looking at roughly $30,000 to get out of debt and be current with all utilities, taxes, etc. which would leave a balance of $20,000 for expansion/capital.

  • Business Plan

We are going to expand our menu to offer smoothies and additional imported snacks. We are going to create "first cat kits" so that adopters have the option to purchase basic cat care supplies from us. Our goal is to adopt out an additional 50 cats per year. We had 102 adoptions in 2023, so the goal is 152 in 2024. Cat Cafes are a growing segment of the market, showing that there is a demand for both unique cafes and pet adoption places. We have had many customers outright thank us for helping the humane society find homes for the cats under their care. We have also been described as a safe haven, as we are the only openly LGBT+ friendly business in our community. Our customers come to us because they feel comfortable to be themselves, the drinks are good, and the cats are calming.

  • Self Identified Competition

We are within an hour's drive of three cat cafes in Ohio; Gem City Catfe in Dayton, Kitty Brew Café in Mason, and Kitty Bubble Café & Bar in Columbus. All three are consistently full with lounge reservations, all three are partnered with rescues. Gem City and Kitty Brew are coffee shops, while Kitty Bubbles offers boba teas and carbonated beverages like we do. We're different simply because our business is a reflection of who we are in our personal lives, warm, welcoming, nerdy, quirky cat lovers. Kitty's Catfe is family owned, married owner/managers, and our kids work when their schedules allow. We have 5 part-time staff members that have become more like family than crew. Our café and lounge are family-friendly--we're one of the few cat cafés to allow all ages inside, which allows potential adopters to see which cat would be the best fit for their children. In the cafe, we have imported snacks because we want to honor the history of boba tea but also because we like them. We are board game nuts, so we have a bookshelf of games for anyone to play, and regular group meets for games like Magic: the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. A friend told us we are filling a need for the vulnerable and under-served population. We have had guests drive to our catfe because of our location is a good central hang out spot--being 10 minutes from two major routes, 35 & 71. We have had guests come to us because they wanted to experience a cat café, but couldn't reserve a time slot at the Columbus catfe, and they have come back because our prices are reasonable and our cat lounge feels more like a home than the sterile environments of Kitty Bubble and Gem City.
