VALKYR | Application Preview
VALKYR is applying for government grants to support the manufacturing, shipping, and distribution of an initial run of 3,000 units of their specially designed cleats for female lacrosse players. The business aims to expand its outreach to the women's lacrosse community, focusing on youth, high school, college programs, and professional athletes in anticipation of women's lacrosse being featured in the 2028 Olympics.
The need for this funding is underscored by the fact that current athletic cleats are based on male shoe molds, leading to higher ACL injury rates among female athletes—often two to eight times higher than their male counterparts. By developing cleats specifically tailored for women's biomechanics, VALKYR hopes to enhance performance, comfort, and support, ultimately reducing injury risks.
While facing competition from brands like New Balance, Nike, and Under Armour—whose products are still primarily designed for boys—VALKYR’s unique approach sets it apart. The company is dedicated to being the first to create gear specifically for female lacrosse athletes, aiming to elevate their performance in the sport.

Business Plan
We plan to extend our outreach to the women's lacrosse community targeting all major youth, hs and college programs as well as pro athletes leading up to the launch of women's lacrosse in the 2028 Olympics. Currently, these athletes are wearing cleats made from the mold of a boy's foot. Female athletes in cleated sports tear their ACLs at a rate of 2-8x higher then boys in the same sports. Making a cleat designed specifically for them is overdue and could potentially change their entire experience including improving performance and longevity in their sport and reduce the rate of injury.
-
Self Identified Competition
New Balance, Nike, and Under Armour - but all of these cleats are made for boys! We have designed a last (or shoe mold) made for the female foot to optimize these athletes specific biomechanics, improve their comfort and support, and hopefully reduce the rate of injury. We are the first company targeting female lacrosse athletes and providing them the gear they need perform at the highest level possible.
