Nutri-Sprout 001525308 | Government Grant Application

Nutri-Sprout | Application Preview

Nutri-Sprout is seeking government grants to acquire equipment essential for meeting supply demands in grocery stores and farmers markets. The funding will be used to purchase a commercial label printer, additional racks and grow lights, tray systems, refrigeration for harvests during distribution, and a cargo vehicle for local vending. Additionally, the funds will cover costs associated with obtaining organic and veteran-owned certifications.

Over the next five years, Nutri-Sprout plans to expand its operations to meet the demands of the Johnson City, Jonesborough, and Elizabethton markets, with a vision to establish a new facility near Kingsport for better distribution to Kingsport and Bristol.

The founder, with a military background, emphasizes a commitment to sustainable urban farming, aiming to provide affordable, locally grown produce to communities facing access issues due to seasonal and logistical barriers. The business model is designed to offer produce at half the cost of shipped products, making healthier food options more accessible.

Currently, there is minimal competition from local urban farms, primarily those importing from out of state. Nutri-Sprout distinguishes itself through its community-focused mission to deliver better nutrition at lower prices, addressing both health disparities and the reduction of farmland due to housing developments and population growth.

  • Funding Usage

Currently we need more equipment to manage the supply requirements for grocery and farmers markets. We need a commercial label printer to streamline packaging, more racks and grow lights, more tray systems, and refrigeration for harvest while in distribution, and a more efficient cargo vehicle for vending to the local stores. We would like to get extra certifications for organic and veteran owned and those are figured into the amount as well.

  • Business Plan

In the next 5 years we plan on being able to satisfy the market for Johnson City, Jonesborough, and Elizabethton. Then open new facility located near Kingsport to make distribution to Kingsport and Bristol more accessible. I am a very driven founder with a military background. My vision is to bring sustainable urban farming to bigger communities that struggle with getting certain locally grown produce be it seasonal or logistical issues. My pricing model allows for profit at half the cost of the produce that is shipped in. This allows our communities to afford better tasting and healthier food for less cost to them.

  • Self Identified Competition

So far there is not any competition for local urban farms other than ones that ship to this area from out of state. What makes us different from our competitors is our mission to help our community get better nutrition for less cost. This will also help us educate people that were normally priced out of healthy food options. Our dedication will help resolve the shortage of farmland used for locally grown produce and offset the heavy burden on local farming from the increase in housing development and population growth.
