Society of Human Engagement and Business Alignment | Application Preview
The Society of Human Engagement and Business Alignment (SHEBA) is applying for government grants to enhance its capacity and support its ongoing youth empowerment programs, particularly for transitional veterans, students, and minority-owned small businesses. The funding will be used to improve staff capabilities and provide necessary resources including technology and capital.
SHEBA's business plan focuses on expanding technical assistance and back-office support for young entrepreneurs and small businesses in low-income communities. By investing in program expansion, they aim to increase access to essential resources and funds for these groups.
The justification for funding approval emphasizes SHEBA's deep-rooted commitment to Hartford’s underprivileged neighborhoods, fostering economic development, job creation, and youth engagement. Drawing from personal experience within the community, the leadership team has developed strong, trusting relationships with clients, establishing themselves as credible community leaders dedicated to addressing issues of equity and opportunity.
In terms of competition, SHEBA will be operating alongside organizations like the Women’s Business Development Council, the Small Business Development Center, and Swift Factory, which offer various forms of support for local businesses. However, SHEBA's unique advantage lies in its recent acquisition of a new downtown facility, which enhances its ability to serve the community while maintaining its original north-end location.
Overall, the requested funding is seen as essential to furthering SHEBA's mission to empower youth and entrepreneurs, ultimately driving greater economic impact in the communities that need it most.

Business Plan
Sheba has plans on building capacity in order to service more businesses with providing technical assistance and back office support for the accelerator and incubation program for young transitional students, entrepreneurs, and small minority businesses within low income communities and abroad. We will also use the funds to expand programming, provide access to capital, and technology. SHEBA is located in one of Hartford’s poorest neighborhoods where we are committed to increasing jobs, economic development, and youth engagement. Additionally, as an individual who comes from the same community we service, my contributions alongside my team goes beyond the tactical work. We've built trust, and authentic relationships with clients and our community. Our integrity precedes us when giving back to the youth, entrepreneurs, veterans, and BIPOC small businesses. We have been recognized as community leaders and aspire to continue to be the conduit that provides inserts resources and capital into communities where equity and disparities are prevalent.

Self Identified Competition
Women’s Business Development Council is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing the tools and resources to help women thrive in business. Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Programs deliver individualized business advising and technical assistance to existing small businesses and pre-venture entrepreneurs. Swift Factory the Swift Factory is an adaptive reuse project in one of Hartford’s poorest neighborhoods offering a mixed use space and services. SHEBA has purchased a building in Downtown Hartford 5 miles away from our current location on the northend of Hartford where we will keep the location to service the community. The location on the northend of Hartford is located in one of Hartford’s poorest neighborhoods. Funding is critical for us as we continue to provide and expand our youth empowerment programs as well as up-skilling and training/developing entrepreneurs where there is a need to increasing jobs, economic development, and youth engagement. As we ramp up our co-working space and small business development center we fully expect to make an even greater impact on low income communities by providing access to resources, capital, and full wrap around services.
