Business Plan
The next two years will involve major construction and development of the exhibition space. Our goal is to acquire the house next door to incorporate into the museum as offices, the gift shop and a research department. By five years, we hope to be exhibiting artists from across the globe who create artwork related to our museum’s mission. The Mary Street Midden Project will explore the history of a vital immigrant neighborhood in the heart of Germantown in Louisville. The artifacts excavated from beneath the structure each have a story to reveal. The museum will educate viewers about our history with trash while teaching them about the history of the city and our culture. We will also help visitors to understand our impact on the future of our community and our world.

Self Identified Competition
We have no competitors. Our project is absolutely unique to Louisville. Our building was built on a 19th century urban midden in use since 1870. The building was constructed after the introduction of municipal garbage pickup and dump centralization. No one knew the history that we have uncovered, because, well, trash just isn’t sexy. Our artifacts count in the thousands, and tell the story of our culture at the end of the 19th century.
