Abilities Laboratory | Application Preview
The Abilities Laboratory is seeking government grant funding to cover debts accrued during its startup phase, including costs associated with lease deposits, utilities, office equipment, and signage.
The business plan focuses on raising awareness of the essential services it provides, which are aimed at families with children who have special needs. The demand for such services is significant, and the application argues that funding this initiative will help a new business dedicated to a marginalized community gain a strong foothold.
The application emphasizes that there is little competition in this space due to the high number of families in need. While free services, if available, could pose a challenge, they are generally rare.
The competitive advantage of Abilities Laboratory lies in the extensive expertise of its founder, who has 20 years of experience in K-12 special education and a deep passion for advocacy in this field. This experience encompasses teaching across all grade levels, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of how to support students and their families effectively. Additionally, the founder has developed a robust network of professional contacts over two decades, enhancing the ability to provide crucial services to the community.

Business Plan
Increasing awareness of services offered will generate business growth. There is no shortage of families of children with special needs in need of support services. This is an opportunity to help give a new start up geared toward serving a marginalized population the best chance to get off the ground. I provide necessary and essential services that improve quality of life and access to education for children with special needs.

Self Identified Competition
There are so many kids and families needing service that there isn’t really any competition. If free services are available, which is rare, if ever, I would be competing with those. I am a highly qualified individual who has spent 20 years in k-12 special education within the public school system and have a unique passion for special education law and advocacy. I am also a strong proponent for early intervention and continued intervention beyond early childhood when needed. Because I have taught all grade levels k-12, I have a unique understanding of how to support students at all ages and their families to help them be best situated to access learning. I also have an immense number of contacts and relationships with related professionals cultivated over 20 years in local public education.
