Ellery woodworks | Application Preview
Ellery Woodworks is seeking government grant funding to expand its woodworking business. The funds will be used to purchase tools and equipment, build a good inventory of quality woods, and develop a website to enhance online visibility and attract more customers.
Currently, the business specializes in creating cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and coasters. Ellery aims to transition into custom furniture as skills and experience grow, with a goal of operating the business full time within five years and eventually hiring employees.
The applicant highlights a strong work ethic and dedication, having previously managed a sizeable team and logistics in a different role. This experience instills confidence in his ability to succeed in his own venture, and he emphasizes a practical approach to seeking necessary financial assistance.
Ellery acknowledges competition primarily from larger businesses that mass-produce lower-quality products. However, he views other small shops as colleagues rather than competitors. His competitive advantage lies in the handmade craftsmanship of his products, which are designed to be durable and long-lasting, contrasting with the disposable nature of mass-produced items.

Business Plan
Right now, I am mainly doing cutting boards, charcuterie boards & coasters but I would like to get into custom furniture as I gain more skill & experience. With-in 5 years I would like to be doing this full time and be making my living & supporting myself doing it. I want to get it to the point were it is successful enough to were I have to hire employees. I am someone who has worked hard his whole life for other people and their businesses. Over the last few months I have gotten a small taste of what it would be like to work for myself, and I love it. In my previous job I had 45 employees a fleet of 22 vehicles and was responsible for all aspects of the operation in my office. I was a very dedicated hard working employee and I know that if I put in the effort I did there into my own business I will succeed, I have no doubt of that. I am a practical humble person, I am not to proud to ask for help when I needed and financial help is something I am in need of right now.

Self Identified Competition
I don't know by name who my top competitors are, but they are the big businesses who masquerade as small independent woodworking shops that can mass produce 100's of cutting boards on the cheap in the time it takes me to do a few. I don't consider other small shops like mine competition. I consider them colleagues who I support. As a small shop I produce handmade quality boards.Boards that will last a life time if taken care of. The big businesses produce cheap boards that do not last very long. This is what they want, so the consumers have to constantly buy new ones.
