Kat's Eye Photography, LLC | Application Preview
Kat's Eye Photography, LLC is seeking government grant funding to lease a retail studio space for one year, which would facilitate the growth of the client base. While portrait sessions are currently offered on location, a dedicated studio would create more opportunities, especially for indoor sessions during winter, when outdoor photography is often challenging.
The business plan emphasizes building clientele through word of mouth and social media. A key focus on pet portraits has led to discussions with pet-centric businesses, while the family portrait focus encourages lasting relationships with clients as their families evolve.
The grant application highlights the founder's extensive experience as a professional portrait photographer for over a decade, both in retail and freelance settings. After relocating from Florida to Wisconsin, the founder has made initial connections, but lacks the capability to offer studio portraits, a service many potential clients prefer. The requested funding is essential to cover the costs of a commercial lease until the client base expands.
The competition in photography is characterized by a unique artistic style for each photographer, making direct competition less straightforward. The founder's competitive edge lies in the experience of working in busy retail environments while maintaining the personalized service typical of freelance photography.

Funding Usage
These funds would cover the cost of leasing a retail studio space for a year while I grow my client base. Although Kat's Eye Photography LLC offers portrait sessions on location, a retail studio space would allow for more opportunities to expand the client base to those requiring an indoor location, and offer a guaranteed option for a session location, particularly during winter months when outdoor sessions are more difficult to accommodate.

Business Plan
Photography businesses tend to grow their client base mostly by word of mouth and social media. Since one of my specialties is pet portraits, I have begun discussions with businesses who also cater to pets and their owners. Additionally, focusing on family portraits allows me to maintain a continued relationship with clients as the families continue to grow for years to come. I've been a professional portrait photographer for more than 10 years, both as a retail studio employee and private freelance photographer. I lived in Florida during this time, so when my family moved to Wisconsin, I lost all of my clients. In the few months since restarting my business, I have made connections with a handful of families, as well as businesses that specialize in pet products. Although I offer sessions at locations or client's homes, many people I've spoken to prefer studio portraits, which I am unable to offer at this time. I have the knowledge and equipment to run a professional studio, but until my client base grows, I cannot afford the added expense of a commercial lease.

Self Identified Competition
Many people might think every other private photographer would be a competitor. However, due to the artistic nature of photography, every photographer has their own style, from shooting to editing, that makes them completely unique. Having worked in retail studios as well as freelance, I've learned how to handle the demands of a high traffic business while maintaining the personal touch of a private photographer.
