  • Funding Usage

M.A.P.S. has steadily increased visibility within the community and visitor numbers continue to rise. However, M.A.P.S. is reaching a place where we need to increase our capacity and footprint in order to keep up with popular demand. Everyone who visits our museum loves it, but we are clearly growing out of our space. We are thus seeking funding that will enable us to move to a larger building, bring in more staff, expand our exhibits and operating hours, and increase our educational programming and community outreach.

  • Business Plan

If M.A.P.S. receives the funding we need to bring in more staff, move into a larger building, expand our exhibits and operating hours, and increase our educational programming and community outreach, we expect the financial return to be proportional but substantial. Having said that, as a registered non-profit, if there is any sort of "profit" it will be used to expand our reach within Pasco County to ensure equitable access to our programming. M.A.P.S. moved into our current 5000 sq foot building in 2020 and opened to the public in 2021. In only a few short years we have reached the point where public demand has grown to the point that we need to extend our operating hours, spend more on materials and supplies, and hire staff to help us meet that demand. We are entering a significant growth phase and, importantly, this is the phase where outside funding becomes crucial. We do not have the staff we need to increase our operating hours or perform more education and outreach. We are committed to our vision of becoming the regional destination for display, education and research in archaeology, paleontology and related fields but we need more resources to make this a reality.

  • Self Identified Competition

We have no competition closer than an hour's drive (Tampa, St. Petersburg) and those museums have a different focus. Our collections, which include over 10,000 artifacts, are both diverse and unique, covering archaeology and paleontology as well as cutting edge science and tech. M.A.P.S. was established through the tenacity and dedication of Charles Zidar, and in its early years was funded almost entirely self-funded. Having said that, this museum is truly one-of-a-kind, not only because of its status as the only archaeology and paleontology museum for miles around, and not only because we have one of the largest collections of Pre-Columbian artifacts in the Southern United States, but because our focus is consistently on bringing the sciences to the community through high quality educational programming and outreach events. M.A.P.S. enriches all of Pasco County through its presence as it fills a cultural and scientific void in an underserved region.
