Children's Culinary Institute | Application Preview
The Children's Culinary Institute is seeking government grants to secure a storefront location for about a year, which would allow the business to thrive and serve a larger community. Without this funding, the institute would remain limited to a community center, impacting its ability to reach more children and potentially hire additional staff.
The business plan includes hosting STEM field trips for schools and providing advanced cooking skills to older students, which would enhance educational offerings and broaden the reach within the community. The overarching goal is to promote healthier food choices among children by teaching them essential cooking skills, moving away from processed options. The approach emphasizes practical knowledge over merely telling children what to eat, aiming for a meaningful change in their food habits.
While there are other cooking programs in the area, the Children's Culinary Institute distinguishes itself through its comprehensive curriculum that integrates math, science, and history into cooking lessons. With nearly 15 years of teaching experience, a certification as a chef, and a published work, the institute offers a depth of knowledge and a unique educational experience that sets it apart from more casual cooking programs.

Funding Usage
I expect to use these funds to pay a store front rent for approximately 1 year in order to establish the local business that supports it self. If I am not able to get the grant assistance, I will stay a sole proprietor in a community center only serving a small handful of children each week. If I am able to get the assistance I can serve more children, and potentially employ other women.

Business Plan
If I am able to move to a store front I can host STEM field trips for local schools, I can upgrade from community center status and be able to bring in older students who are looking for more serious cooking skills. I can bring on other instructors and reach more students in my area. My over all goal is to change the food future from quick fast over processed foods to students who grow skill confidence and know how to use real food in the kitchen. Starting with kids gives us a better chance at a better food future for us all. Telling them "what" they should eat without giving them the skills to do it is useless.

Self Identified Competition
I don't know that I actually have "Competitors " I know there are other people running franchises that allow students to cook, (Flour power, Young Chef academy ) I do not think any of them have really dove into the math, science and skill learning that I include, and none of them are in my immediate area. I am a certified chef, I am a published author and I have been teaching for nearly 15 years. Other kids cooking facilities are not using the in depth curriculum that I am and do more of a "play" in the kitchen model. You will hear things in my class like "Oh, we were just studying this is in science" or "I can't believe you were teaching my 4 year old fractions" We really dive into the geography of food, the history. We focus on the science of it as well as challenge them on the math and build the students confidence in the kitchen.
