  • Funding Usage

This would pay for contractor wages, printing, publishing and marketing cost of 8 physical issues of our publications and a years worth of digital journalism and publishing.

  • Business Plan

Our business plan consists of building a catalog of books that will be printed in editions of 500 at a time. After the first edition, we will see large volumes of revenue due to our contract structure which pays artists and journalist for their work in only the first edition (not ongoing royalties). Over time this will increase our profit to reach a wider audience and grow our visibility. We will support the sales of our books through 40% retail sales via our website/in person events and 60% wholesale distribution to various stores across the US. We have already begun to establish a distribution network which will continue to grow as we continue building and maintaining strong relationships with retailers. We are a network of artists that enriches the culture of the entire US. Theres a desire from audiences everywhere to supplement their purchase of digital goods with physical ones. This is reflexive of the technological boom that the internet has created in the new millennium. As we saw with the .com bubble bursting, digital goods are not an avenue of limitless revenue. Digital and physical media need to be working in tandem to meet the desire of a wider audience of consumer. Stoop Shop is working to strike this balance with high quality printing and digital innovation. As a designer with experience in both digital and print products, I am confident we can synergies our knowledge of user experience/business strategy to build a strong company. We just need the start up investment to stoke the flames.

  • Self Identified Competition

On a more immediate level, Silver Sprocket is a publisher and retailer that we will be in most competition with. Seeing as we are on opposite coasts of the country, there will likely be space for us to grow large along major East Coast Cites (NYC, Philly, DC, Atlanta, Boston) easier than they will be able to because our headquarters is in Baltimore, MD. As we grow, our 2 other direct publishing competitors will be Fantagraphics and Dark Horse Comics. Right now they are much bigger than us but we do have confidence that in time we will meet the reach of these publishers Silver Sprocket, Fantagraphics and Dark Horse Comics don't have one vital thing that we do: in-house printing. We have all of the knowledge to grow our printing and binding capabilities as the company grows. This will keep our production and distribution costs lower and our profits higher. We also have a strong network for up coming artists that could become exclusive artists with Stoop Shop. Recruiting new artists from a diverse background (rather than clinging to the same artists that have brought success) is an opportunity to engage new customers and long standing customers of our competitors. It will also be more lucrative because these artists are just getting started in their career and have not yet grown to their full salary potential yet. We hope they will grown with us as we continue to scout new talent.
