Straight Arrow Construction, LLC | Application Preview
Straight Arrow Construction, LLC is seeking government grant funding to enhance its operational capabilities. The funds will be used to purchase an enclosed trailer for secure tool storage and transport, a vehicle topper for smaller jobs, and larger, more efficient tools such as saws, nail guns, and plumbing/electrical equipment. Additionally, the funding will help pay vendors upfront, ensuring positive relationships for future projects.
The business plan includes hiring more employees to manage multiple projects at once and to accommodate activities like homeowner meetings and estimates. The owner plans to utilize social media and local media outlets for marketing, alongside registering with the Colorado Better Business Bureau to enhance visibility.
The applicant brings a wealth of experience, including 20 years in the Army as a Construction Engineering Chief Warrant Officer and 26 years in civilian construction, culminating in roles from Assistant Project Manager to Vice President of Construction in the Denver Metro area. This background underscores a commitment to maintaining and growing the business.
In terms of competition, the market consists mainly of inexperienced small contractors or large firms lacking personal engagement with homeowners. The competitive advantage lies in the applicant's extensive experience and personalized service, which fosters strong customer relationships and generates referrals. The owner aims to leverage this experience to offer fair pricing while maintaining profitability.

Funding Usage
I would like to invest in an enclosed trailer to secure tools and materials for jobs that are awarded, as well as a topper for my work vehicle to allow secure transport/storage at smaller jobs not requiring a trailer. I also need to invest in larger, more efficient tools for the work being completed, including a table saw, tile saw, nail guns, ladders, extension cords, plumbing/electrical tools, miter saw, and miscellaneous required equipment. I will also use the money as capital to pay vendors before I am paid for the job, keeping in good standing with trade partners for future work.

Business Plan
I intend to hire additional employees in the next year to allow the ability to run multiple jobs simultaneously, as well as afford me the availability to conduct homeowner meetings, estimates, bid sheets, warranty calls, and small business continuing education classes/seminars. I will be active on all social media platforms highlighting previous work completed, with the intent of generating additional leads. I will also be marketing in local media outlets, and will register with the CO Better Business Bureau. I am a 20 year veteran of the Army, and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer III in the field of Construction Engineering. I have 26 years of experience in the civilian sector in the construction industry. I owned and operated a small business in North Dakota as a framer until the recession in 2008. At which time, I became an instructor for the Army, teaching carpentry. After moving to Colorado, I completed my degree in Construction Management, and worked as a Residential Project Manager. I have spent the last 14 years working for residential builders in the Denver Metro area. I began as an Assistant Project Manager, working my way up to Vice President of Construction. During my time as an Construction Executive, I partnered with senior leaders to establish business plans, build annual forecasts, develop, and implement company initiatives, maintain, and promote company culture, enforce company standards, and support employee development and retention. I also contributed to and supported financial development and management of the company through review and analysis of company income statements and balance sheets. I have full confidence in my ability to not only maintain, but develop my company in the coming years.

Self Identified Competition
The market is full of small remodeling contractors with very little experience, or so large, the personal experience with the homeowner does not exist. As mentioned above, I have experience in most every aspect of construction through my 20 years of training in the military, as well as my 26 years of civilian experience in residential construction. In the last 12-15 years, I have had the ability to sharpen my customer interaction abilities, working with them as I built their homes. Most competitors are large operations that overcharge due to increasing overhead. The personal touch does not exist, with dozens of different contractors filing through the customer's homes. The experience that I have in estimating, partnered with my ability to personally complete most any job, enables me the ability to price fairly, while still turning a profit. I have already found that most of my current work is through word of mouth referrals from previous customers.
