Burl Crazy LLC | Application Preview
Burl Crazy LLC is seeking government grants to address several urgent needs following severe weather impacts and economic disruptions caused by events like COVID-19 and Hurricane Helene. The funding will be used to repair the woodshop roof, replace slabs lost in a mudslide, and build a new slab shed to protect wood inventory from future weather events. The business also aims to recover from significant income loss, particularly as Helene hit just before the busy season.
With the new facility, Burl Crazy plans to expand its offerings by selling more wood slabs and introducing surfacing services and epoxy woodworking classes. As a dedicated veteran with extensive industry experience, the owner has shown resilience and potential for growth despite challenges.
The business faces minimal competition, having only one key rival that recently closed due to similar damages. With an edge in producing unique, high-quality products sourced directly from logs, Burl Crazy focuses on creating bespoke furniture using rare woods that are not widely available. This distinctiveness positions the company for success in a niche market, making the grant funding essential for expansion and increased income opportunities.

Business Plan
With a new slab building we can expand our wood slabs selling business and begin offering surfacing services as well as epoxy woodworking classes I am a hard working talented individual, and a veteran who has dedicated many years in industry and the NC Forest service as a wildland firefighter before pursuing my passion in woodworking. i have great potential to expand and excellent but have been hit by two major economic disasters (Covid and Helene) since starting my business, making it challenging. This funding would help me expand and have more income streams, improving my chances of success.

Self Identified Competition
My only top competitor in my area was 3Oaks but they recently went out of business due to damage sustained from Helene. Our next biggest competitor are in downtown Asheville and do not serve the same client base. We take our products from the tree to the finished products, sourcing logs, sawing, drying, surfacing and finishing into exquisite furniture. Because we source our own lumber and have many connections to arborists, we are able to collect only the most unusual and highly figured woods so we offer unique products that others cNt replicate including rare Burl, which is our claim to fame
