  • Funding Usage

We would like to hire a marketing specialist to help us grow our customer base in the Los Angeles basin and expand sales of local, sustainable seafood to schools, hospitals, and other institutions. We would like to hire a chef to create ready-to-cook meal kits with our seafood. We would like to purchase specialized equipment such as a smoker and a commercial dehydrator for making new value-added products with our seafood.

  • Business Plan

Expanding the geography of our customer base throughout the LA Basin and Orange County, and adding more wholesale revenue streams to restaurants and institutions. We want to develop and produce new product lines of seafood specialty items like fish jerky, smoked fish, and ready-to-cook prepared meals. We have 2.5 years of proven success and expertise in a growth industry with few direct competitors. Our customers stay with us long term: 50% of customers that start our weekly delivery service stay for at least 9 months. We can tap into a very large metropolitan area of new customers (the LA basin) and grow 10 fold in the next year. Consumer interest and willingness to pay for seafood is on a sharp rise, with Millennials spending more on seafood than any other generation. We are a women-owned company and with a value-driven mission to educate consumers about the benefits to health, community and the planet from choosing California-caught seafood. We aim to solve environmental and human-rights issues by providing consumers with a sustainable, traceable, fair-trade and local source of seafood. The US imports 90% of its seafood, with a trade deficit second to oil, and associated with environmental destruction, pollution and slave labor. Raising consumer awareness and access to local seafood to reverse these trends. The volume of California-caught seafood is on a strong upward trajectory as fishing grounds are re-opened after decades of successfully 'rebuilding' fish stocks. But few local fish processors are left. We have created a new processing facility that is ready to take advantage of the increasing volume of fish coming in and make new value-added creations with it that can give consumers new access to local, sustainable and healthy seafood options in their diet.

  • Self Identified Competition

Our competitors are local fish markets, principally Santa Barbara Fish Market and Santa Monica Seafood, which also offer home delivery. However, no other business exists in our geography that offers a membership subscription program for fresh seafood that is 100% local and sustainable. In addition, consumers looking for something similar to what we offer may opt for another home delivery meal-kit program that includes seafood, or a CSA-box that offers local seafood, or go to a farmer's market weekly to get fresh local seafood. Our customers rave about the quality of our product and the educational experience they get when they purchase our seafood. We send information about the fisherman, fishery, recipes and cooking tips and videos with every delivery. Customers must become members of our service to participate, increasing their loyalty and life time spending with us.
