Craig's Golden Shears 9879 | Government Grant Application

Craig's Golden Shears | Application Preview

Craig's Golden Shears is applying for government grants to enhance its facilities and expand service offerings. The proposed funding will be used to upgrade vital equipment such as barber chairs, shampoo bowls, and lighting, as well as improve electrical and plumbing systems. Additionally, the business aims to establish a media center, a car wash service, and purchase equipment that will help young adults gain self-employment skills. A youth will be hired to manage the media center, receiving guidance along the way.

The business plan includes providing services like a computer center, lawn care, and neighborhood assistance, particularly targeting seniors and underprivileged youth. The goal is to equip young individuals with skills for the service industry, as many essential services are currently unavailable in the community.

Approval of funding is sought to enhance the on-the-job training program for barbers, creating a pathway for many to enter a professional career. With no similar institutions within a 150-200 mile radius, the plan includes adding classrooms and meeting facilities for higher education courses.

In terms of competition, Craig's Golden Shears stands out after the closure of the local cosmetology school, currently being the only shop/school within a 100-mile radius. While there are other salons in the area, the business offers unique services such as home care for clients in nursing homes and retail products that are not available locally, positioning itself against larger competitors like Walmart located 30 miles away.

With 40 years of experience, Craig's Golden Shears provides services like shaving and facials that are often overlooked by younger establishments, reinforcing its competitive advantage in the market.

  • Funding Usage

The funds will be used to update facility such as barber chairs, shampoo bowls, floor mats, redo the wiring, update plumbing and lighting. In addition I would like to add a media center, car wash, and purchase equipment to allow young adults to become self employed and to hire a youth to act as receptionist and manage media center with guidance.

  • Business Plan

I plan to offer such services as a computer center, add a car wash service, add a lawn care service, offer local individuals in the community, which consist of seniors and underprivileged youth services in their neighborhood. I plan to work with youth to help them become skills through the service industry. Most or all services are no longer offered in this community. I want to expand my ability to train other barbers through my On-the-job training program. I believe this will give individuals the opportunity to train for a professional career. No other such institute exist for a 150-200 mile range. I would like to add classrooms and a meeting facility for higher education classes.

  • Self Identified Competition

With the recent closing of the Walterboro cosmetology school I am the only shop/school in a 100 mile radius. There are other shop in the area that supply services to the public. I also offer hair care supplies and clippers as a retail items, many of which are professional products and are not found in local stores my competition would be Walmart which is 30 miles away. I have been in business for 40 years and I offer shaving, facials, and other personal service not offered by younger or newer shops. I also offer home care services to customers who are in the nursing homes and are home bound and can no longer attend the shop.
