Something Sweet, LLC 87-3933959 | Government Grant Application

Something Sweet, LLC | Application Preview

Something Sweet, LLC is seeking government grants to enhance its operations and community presence. The funding will allow the owner to establish contracts with grocery suppliers, purchase kitchen equipment, and create a more sustainable business environment. With these resources, plans include hosting events to attract more clients and contribute meaningfully to the local community.

Over the next five years, the goal is to open a small bakery/deli where the menu varies daily and weekly, while core bakery items are always available. The owner envisions hiring talented bakers who want to showcase their creativity and displaying local artwork for sale in the establishment.

The rationale for funding approval highlights the current lack of innovative dining options in the community, despite the presence of established restaurants. The owner aims to cultivate an inviting atmosphere and an exciting menu that locals will eagerly anticipate. Additionally, funding would enable the business to cater events, which have been requested but not possible due to existing resource constraints. With a background in business and a passion for baking, the owner believes that financial support would lead to a successful venture.

In terms of competition, two main rivals are identified: Bernie's, a Nordic-style eatery with a limited lunch menu, and Grazing Queens, which provides charcuterie classes but may lack proper licensing for catering. Something Sweet's competitive edge lies in the owner's deep ties to the North Dakota community, commitment to understanding local desires, and a focus on letting the quality of the food and baking talents shine through rather than relying on past affiliations.

  • Funding Usage

With this funding, I can set up contracts with grocery suppliers, be able to buy more equipment for my kitchen, and honestly be able to breathe. I can host events to get more clientele, and really become a part of the community. My long term goal is to have a healthy bakery/deli.

  • Business Plan

In the next five years, if the funding is available, I dream of having a small bakery/deli where the menu changes daily and by the week. The bakery items would remain available at all times. I would also like to hire some talented bakers who also want to express themselves through baking. I would also like to have artwork from local artists on show in my space available for sale. In our community, I noticed an opportunity that is missing. We have great restaurants, but they have been the same since they opened. I also don't see much creativity within their menu. I want to create an atmosphere and a menu people look forward to. I would love to be about to have the funds to also get fully set up for catering events. I have been asked by so many, but have been unable due to my limited resources, which in turn harms my business. I went to school for business, and I have a passion for baking/cooking. I know if I could solely focus on this dream without the constant monetary stress, it would be successful.

  • Self Identified Competition

I'd say I have a top 2 1.) Bernie's - developed by Molly Yeh who was discovered through her blogs. She married a farmer from Minnesota, and was picked up by the food network. She specializes in Nordic style food, but right now only has a lunch menu. I've heard mixed reviews, but one thing I notice is that the size of her restaurant surpasses her need. 2.) Grazing Queens Started recently by a pageant girl who won Mrs. North Dakota. She specializes in teaching charcuterie classes, but I don't think she has the license to actually provide boards. I am North Dakota born and raised, and I love my community. I go them to see what they want and I listen. I started my business in my own, but because of some other platform. (Blog, pageant) I want to make a make for myself through my business, not because of who I was before. I don't post many pictures with my face, my goal is to let my food and talents speak for themselves, and they have been!
