  • Funding Usage

I would use the money to lay down turf in the building. Turf for my building would run around $7,000. I will be price checking more places. I would also purchase netting to divide the building in half so that I can maximize the space and do two sides of 4 pitching lanes. I would purchase 8 pitching mats, softballs, weighted training balls, and multiple pitching tools. I would purchase a cheap couch, chairs or a bench for parents to sit on while their child is in their lesson. For the toddler turf time, I would purchase child size basketball hoops, soccer nets, a variety of balls (footballs, baseballs, softballs, basketballs, golf sets, soccer balls), hula hoops, gymnastics blocks, and jump ropes to name a few. Ideally, I would love to have a kids corner for siblings of those who come to pitch. This would be a small area where I would put a nugget couch and some blankets. Anything extra would go towards waters or gatorades and any decor to make the place somewhere where my pitchers enjoy being and are proud to be a part of.

  • Business Plan

I currently have a growing waitlist of pitchers wanting to get into private lessons with me. I have brought another coach on board to help give lessons and she also now has a waitlist. The demand is there. I don't currently have a space that I can use at any time to accommodate more pitchers than I already have. I plan to hire more coaches to meet the demands of how many pitchers are wanting private lessons. I would also like to provide a monthly membership opportunity for my pitchers to be able to come in and pitch whenever they would like so that they can work on their stuff outside of private lessons. In Michigan, its absolutely necessary to have an indoor facility because of the weather. Toddler turf time will be a great asset to my business. Most of my lessons happen between the hours of 4pm-9pm and on the weekends due to kids being in school. The toddler turf time will allow for income during the earlier day time hours. It will also bring more people in the door which will help market my business by word of mouth. I believe I should be awarded the funding for my business because I have successfully ran my coaching business by myself for the last 3 years and have grown exponentially each year with no end in sight. I have proved myself and fought through the challenges of not having my own space by always finding somewhere to give my lessons at. I have created and maintained relationships and have a positive reputation in Michigan for my coaching skills. My waitlist is long without any marketing, just word of mouth. I just need the space to get the kids and their parents in the door so that I can coach them. I dislike telling parents that their child can't learn because I don't have the space to give them at. Every child should have the opportunity to learn something that they're interested in. My business provides a space for kids to be active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I not only provide athletic skills but also teach them to respect authority, be coachable, learn to push through adversity and maintain a positive attitude when things don't go their way.

  • Self Identified Competition

There are no spaces exactly like mine in the area. There are massive facilities such as Diamonds and Elite but those include travel teams for both baseball and softball. These facilities have so many athletes that it's hard to come by any cage or pitching lane time. There are no facilities specifically geared towards softball pitching training. There are other coaches in the area but most use facilities like Diamonds and Elite and have to work under their umbrella. My business differs from others because I am a woman who has been there. I am specific to softball. I am not a giant corporation so I'm able to build and maintain relationships. I pitched in college. I worked my way there and know what it takes to get to that level. I can relate to these young women because I have been in their shoes. A majority of pitching coaches are men who have never played the game. I am able to relate to these girls more because I actually did what they're learning to do for many years. I have felt it. I have worked hard at it. I have been successful at it. Most of my competitors cater to baseball first and softball is an after thought. There are no training facilities specifically for pitching. Most of them offer hitting, fielding, pitching, and travel teams by whatever coaches they come by. I have mastered what I teach and am very good at what I do. Aside from softball, I am a mother of three young children. I know and have been to every play place and library around. I have yet to find a play place for toddlers that introduces them to sports. I know many moms that would enjoy having a space to let their kids burn some energy with sports equipment. Every mom wants to take that photo or be there the first time their kid hits a ball off a tee or makes a basket and I would provide just that!
