  • Funding Usage

The funding would be used to expand the business and hire more employees. We are working to expand our wholesale operations. We have a full line of B&J branded products that we are trying to sell to other retail fishing stores. This would require us to hire 2-4 more people to help build the products, 1-2 more people to help design and create packaging and 1-2 people for packaging and shipping of the products. We also want to expand our online presence by migrating to a more automated interface to sell more items on Amazon, Ebay and our own Ecom site. This requires 1 person to help build a new site and set up the products to be sold. New tools would need to be purchased to build the products and more inventory would need to be purchased in bulk to keep costs down.

  • Business Plan

We plan to expand our wholesale program and the goal in 5 years is to sell to 200 retailers with a minimum of $5,000 per year to each store. This would bring in an additional $1mil in revenue. We also want to expand our retail store to other parts of Alaska for the summers. Places like Valdez AK are prime for a known fishing business to move in and support the community and offer great merchandise to the locals and the commercial fishing people. I have been in retail my entire life. My parents owned small businesses my entire childhood and adult life and I went to college and received a BA in business management. I've worked for 2 different convenience store chains since moving to Alaska and I understand how retail businesses are operate in Alaska. I also understand the the Alaska community and try to give back to Alaskans when I can with donations and time. I work in the community with kids and adults with type 1 diabetes and I strive to be the best owner and boss that I can.

  • Self Identified Competition

My main competitors are Bass Pro, Cabela's and Big Ray's Sporting Goods. Bass Pro and Cabela's are the same. They are big box stores that cater to the L48 rather than to Alaskans. They don't offer the things that we do and they are always out of stock. Big Ray's sells more clothing than fishing supplies, but they are well known and they are expanding more and more into the fishing and camping industries. The main thing that makes us different is that we specialize in fishing. We cater to the everyday fisherman, but also take care of the commercial workers. We also produce our line of B&J products designed for Alaska. Most of the items that we make are halibut jigs. We spend most of the winter building them so we can support the sales through the summer. We also produce trolling spoons, we package our own terminal tackle and we acquire unfiltered herring oil that we bottle into a few different items that no one else has. Yes, these are designed for Alaska, but all of these items will work anyone along the west coast and some would work great in other saltwater applications.
