  • Funding Usage

After being an independent stylist for 12 of my 24 years in the business, I'm opening my own salon. It will provide 3 jobs besides myself. The grant would be used for purchasing equipment and supplies such as stations with mirrors, fatigue mats, trash cans, state of the art freestylist dryers, shampoo stations, storage cabinet for stylists, reception furniture and beverage station. Disposables such as paper towels, toilet paper, laundry supplies, cleaning supplies, website updating and development, advertising , retail and the like.

  • Business Plan

In order to grow my business, I plan to specialize in a niche in our area that no one else does, scalp micropigmentation services and cater to the elderly and mentally disabled. Yes they can go to other shops and receive services but when we have specific packages, access and services just for them, taking their budget into consideration..... it's a no brainer. I plan to work with magic city's coordinator here in Cheyenne to get them and their affiliates set up with our services. For scalp micropigmentation I will train with SMP Institute in Minneapolis,MN. This service creates tiny indentations mimicking hair follicles to enhance density in women who suffer from hair thinning or alopecia. For men, it creates a new hair line mimicking a buzz cut and reinstates their confidence and self worth. No one in our city offers these services directly. I have been a dedicated professional for over 24 years. My heart is in this to help others in ways that no one else can. Yes, it's great to make a living, but the reward comes from seeing the girl who gets teased light up when she sees her hair and "looks like the girls in magazines ", or doing a complimentary service for a client who just lost her child, or husband. Aside from that, I have spent years researching our area, building my brand and marketing myself. I know what shop does what services, their vibe, pricing, reputation and longevity. It's time now, to bring a select few on board, expand and focus on areas others overlook. Many salons here are "high end" and that's not a great fit for 75% of our city. Then you have the corporate chains, in and out like sheep. It's ok for some but where is the quality? This may sound cliché, My goal is to provide everyone who comes in with a great service within their budget, superb customer service, maybe a few dad jokes to make them laugh, and a feeling of being among friends.

  • Self Identified Competition

I consider everyone a competitor..... in our industry we are all trained to do the same services. What makes us different is where we work,( the environment or ambiance), how we treat our guests and the quality of our work. It's a cut throat industry and you have to bring your A-game every day, every time. What makes me, my ideas and business different is that I genuinely care about the people who choose me to do their service. I'm not a corporation looking at the numbers and bottom line. I'm not a high end salon catering to the ladies who lunch or those who can afford those services. I focus on those who get overlooked, the underdog, fixed incomes, vets, disabled and anyone else who doesn't fit the mold so to speak. It may not sound very interesting, but I assure you there is a need and it's not being met.
