On 24th by Jordie | Application Preview

Jordie is applying for government grant funding for her business, On 24th, to support various growth initiatives. The funds will be used for improving manufacturing processes, sourcing higher-quality materials, upgrading packaging, conducting photoshoots, and launching creative campaigns, as well as developing future product collections.

Over the next five years, Jordie aims to transition to small batch manufacturing. This approach will enable her to produce only what is necessary, thereby reducing waste and enhancing sustainability. She plans to engage with customers through pop-up shops, providing opportunities for them to experience her products directly. This strategy allows for a mini-retail presence without the significant investment of a permanent store.

Jordie intends to expand her product line beyond tops, jackets, and dresses to include accessories like purses, pants, outerwear, and gowns. She also hopes to partner with retailers like Nordstrom to gain visibility for her brand. One of her goals is to establish a dedicated office space, which will accommodate her creative work and allow her to invite customers for custom fittings, focusing on designing apparel that caters to the diverse body types of curvy women.

Jordie emphasizes the pressing need for more options in the plus-size market, which currently lacks fashionable choices specifically designed for curvier women. Her brand aims to fill this gap by offering stylish, thoughtfully designed pieces that reflect her personal experiences as a plus-size woman.

While recognizing competition from brands like Eloquii and Fashion to Figure, Jordie believes her brand stands out due to its grassroots nature and focus on authenticity. Each piece is handmade, reflecting her dedication to creating fashion-forward options for plus-size women and promoting body positivity within the fashion community.

  • Business Plan

In the next 5 years I want to be able to get into small batch manufacturing. That way I can create more product, expand my size range and do all to this in a sustainable way. With small batch manufacturing I can create only what I need in order to save money and help the environment by producing less waster. I plan to participate in pop up shops or idealy host my own which will be made possible with having pieces that are already made for me (currently I sew everything myself, by hand). Pop up shops will be integral to my business because it will give customers the chance to see the product up close also with each shop I would like to create an experience that directly reflects On 24th. This will be a great way to create a mini store without committing to a brick and mortar. I plan to widen the assortment of items I currently sell which are tops, jackets and dresses. I would like to included purses and other accessories, pants, heavier outer wear styles and gowns. I would also like to pitch my clothing to retailers like Nordstrom that support small brands, with the goal of gaining more visibility for my brand. Once I have more product it will make pitching a fully established brand to retailers easier. I also in the next 5 years would like to create an office space to operate my business, currently I work out of my tiny bedroom and I need a lot of space. I need a full functioning studio that will allow me to create and work as my office space. In this studio I want to be able to invite customers over in order to offer customizations. All women bodies are very different especially the curvier a woman is and I think it would be amazing to really tailor specific pieces to women bodies. How many plus size brands exist that are exclusively for plus size women? Not many! The plus size market is very small and there is a strong need for plus size, fashion forward and chic clothing. Clothing that is made and designed by a woman who has been plus size her whole life is rare to find. My brand is a dream of mine in action that clearly shows that the goal is providing options that are not available in the market right now. Investing in my brand is investing in a higher grade of inclusivity. It is investing in the future of clothing for all of the curvy women who can still only go to select stores to find clothing that does not look like an after thought. There is integrity behind this brand and a very earnest and honest goal of changing fashions perspective of what people believe plus size women can wear.

  • Self Identified Competition

Competitor brands include Eloquii, Fashion to Figure and REB DOLLS. These three brands sell more fashion forward options that are exclusively for the plus size women. However the aesthetic for their clothing is very different from the luxe and chic aesthetic my brand is aiming for. My brand is different because it is a homegrown small brand. Starting and still growing in a small bedroom in Staten Island my brand is no huge corporation, which means the attention to detail the growth on social media, the approach to selling and reaching the plus community is very genuine and not necessarily driven by money. My brand is truly driven by the desire to make women who are plus size feel better about their bodies through clothing. Each piece currently is hand made by me and is a direct reflection of me, the designer who took the time to create fashion forward pieces for the curvy bodies that are normally shunned by the fashion community.
