Sugarbiscuits and Company 842794227 | Government Grant Application

Sugarbiscuits and Company | Application Preview

Sugarbiscuits and Company is seeking government grants to stabilize their finances and restart operations. The funding would primarily help cover overdue bills and support the hiring of approximately 10 full-time employees to reopen their restaurant.

The business aims to operate daily and expand their services to include catering and events. They had previously secured contracts for an outdoor dining venue next door, which they plan to renovate and enhance with a food truck to serve the local historic courthouse square. They envision transforming an currently neglected area into a lively space for community events and live entertainment while maintaining the quality of food and service they are known for.

The owners, who have faced tremendous personal loss with the passing of two adult children, emphasize their dedication to their community and their previous experience running a successful business with 13 employees. The goal is to rebuild a strong team in a tight job market where local businesses are struggling to find staff.

In terms of competition, they acknowledge three nearby eateries—Riverhouse Grill, Storiebook Cafe, and The Green Pickle—which they respect and view as healthy rivals. Sugarbiscuits claims a competitive edge through its focus on a scratch kitchen that uses local ingredients and offers catering services, distinguishing it from competitors that only provide dine-in options. They are committed to continuing the legacy of their family business in honor of their children.

  • Funding Usage

We would use any funding on catching up on our bills (rent/utilities/loans) as running capital to hire around 10 full-time employees to help us reopen our restaurant.

  • Business Plan

We would like to open our eatery daily, continue to provide catering/events. Prior to our children’s death, we had negotiated contracts to rent the property next door to include an outside dining/venue space for our business. Our plan was to expand and purchase a food truck to service the outside garden area on our local, historic courthouse square. That space is currently an eyesore and not a benefit to the community, but we believe that we are in a unique situation where we could turn that outside space into a venue for live entertainment/events. A small food truck would eliminate the complication of handling outside orders in the eatery kitchen but still provide the quality of food and service that we are known for. We are honest and hardworking people who love to pour into our community. Unfortunately, we list 2 of our adult children in a car accident and we have had to close to deal with the tremendous grief. We had employed 13 employees when we were open, but they have all found other employment. We need to build a completely new team and train them in a very unstable pool of candidates. We live in a very small community and every small business is struggling to find employees.

  • Self Identified Competition

Mr too three competitors would be Riverhouse Grill, Storiebook Cafe & The Green Pickle. All located in downtown Glen Rose, Texas. The are small & locally owned eateries with community involved owners. They are all great people and I believe we keep each other working hard to hold a higher standard for our own individual businesses. I it definitely healthy competition and I’m grateful for them. I wish us all great success! I have built a great reputation from our scratch kitchen. We make everything in house everyday and we use local ingredients as much as we can. We also offer catering, which my competitors do not. They only offer dine-in. We are the venue of choice for parties and events and we take great pride in what we were able to build with our children and would love the opportunity to continue in their honor.
