JBDR Media Group LLC | Application Preview
JBDR Media Group LLC is applying for government grants to support the creation of a book highlighting African Americans' contributions to Oklahoma City. The funding will be allocated to various expenses, including website maintenance, online advertising, vendor opportunities, wholesale purchases, photography, editing, distribution, and research, totaling approximately $32,000.
The business plan focuses on utilizing strategic advertising and vendor collaborations to enhance the company's online presence and personal brand. The applicant, a journalist and filmmaker with multiple self-published works and recent recognition from the Great Plains Journalism Award, aims to curate and document the African American experience in Oklahoma City, particularly from the 1960s to the present.
While competition exists, notably from Arcadia Publishing's past works, the applicant sees a unique opportunity. There has been no recent initiative to thoroughly document this history, and no local store currently showcases multiple African American designers simultaneously. The proposed book aims to fill this gap, providing a narrative that highlights Oklahoma City's rich history and fostering pride within the community.

Business Plan
I plan to use strategic advertising and vendor opportunities to grow my websites and personal brand. I want to create a book with pictures and stories about African Americans who have contributed to Oklahoma City. I am a journalist, author (5 self-published works), and filmmaker (20 films including series, talk shows, short, and feature length films. I won the 2023 Great Plains Journalism Award for Magazine Lifestyle Writing. I am already curating the African American Experience in Oklahoma City.

Self Identified Competition
Arcadia Publishing has published books detailing the African American experience. I believe their last work on the topic was published in 2018. There are African American designers in Oklahoma City but there isn't a store that sells multiple designers' items simultaneously. I'm unbiased. I want to document the history of the 1960s-2023 before the history tellers have passed on. I want Oklahoma to know their full history and be proud. This hasn't been done and I don't know if anyone else has real interest in doing it.
