Creek Side Land Management | Application Preview
Creek Side Land Management is applying for government grants primarily to acquire equipment and specialized attachments for land clearing and reclamation. The funding will also support the construction of a small facility to house this equipment on property already owned by the business, with only a minimal portion allocated for that purpose.
The business idea is to operate in the evenings and on weekends for the next 3 to 4 years, with plans to transition to full-time work as the business grows. Advertising will be targeted to the local community, capitalizing on a lack of competition in forestry mulching and land reclamation in the area. The owner, aged 57 and a long-time employee of a local power company, aims to retire from his current job between 59.5 and 62 years old, depending on business success.
The application emphasizes the owner’s extensive experience in the power sector, showcasing a strong work ethic and a commitment to clients. The business aims to enhance the aesthetic value of properties and promote various land uses.
Currently, there are no competitors specifically offering the specialized services and equipment planned for Creek Side Land Management. While Whitten Construction provides some similar services, they do not utilize the unique cutting and mulching attachments that will distinguish this new business. These attachments not only facilitate land clearing but also produce mulch, speeding up decomposition and removing the need for burning debris, giving the business a competitive advantage in the region.

Business Plan
I plan to work the business evenings and weekends for the next 3 to 4 years. By then I plan to have the business established to the point I can retire from my current job and work the business full time, allowing more jobs to be accepted and completed. I plan to advertise locally and in the surrounding area taking what ever work is available. There isn't any other businesses locally that advertise forestry mulching, or land reclamation as I am aware of. Therefor I feel this will be a very desirable and useful business to establish in in this area. I am 57 1/2 years old and plan to retire from my current job between 59 1/2 and 62 depending on the growth of the business. I have been a loyal employee of a local power company for 37 years. I have been through 3 buyouts and have worked my way from Laborer, scrubbing toilets, cleaning the building, and taking care of the grounds to Groundman, then Lineman as soon as it came available, to Lead Lineman, Line supervisor , to my current position of Line/Trouble Supervisor. My current position includes responsibility for for a 6 man crew covering shifts 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, covering a 5 county area I also am expected to cover for 2 Line Supervisors absences and vacations in Hinton and Fairlea areas. I was the first Trouble Supervisor supervising the first Trouble crew Mon Power implemented in West Virginia. I feel I have always had a strong work ethic and complete every task assigned within the required time or before. I am looking forward to a new adventure in a different field helping folks to realize the beauty of their property and the many different uses that it presents.

Self Identified Competition
I don't know of any competitors in this particular field in the Summers County area. There are other companies that preform dirt work utilizing some machines but none that offer the use of the very expensive cutting and mulching attachments I plan to implement which eliminates the need to pile and burn the refuse from the clearing process. Whitten Construction may be the biggest and only other business in the Summers County area that utilizes some of the same machinery but none of the specialized attachments I plan to employ. The difference as mentioned in earlier answers is the use of specialized mulching and cutting attachments that not only clear the land but leave behind a bed of mulch that will more quickly decompose, and eliminates the need to burn large piles of debris from the reclamation process.
