  • Funding Usage

I am launching this business using my personal home. This is sustainable for a short period of time. However, I need to locate and/or build a facility that provides a safe “home away from home” for ongoing operations. I am seeking a down payment for the land/property purchase that makes future monthly payments achievable. The current business supports five (5) of these facilities. However, a single facility represents a viable starting point from which to attract and support future clients and relieve the family stress of caring for these extraordinary adults. Lacking this facility, it will be difficult to be seen as credible, and will most certainly limit the number of clients and families in need for which I can provide assistance.

  • Business Plan

This business grows primarily through referrals. Since fees are captured through Medicaid, there are imposed ethical restraints around advertising. My former business, identical to this new entity, acquired 19 long-term clients over a 10-year timeframe, each generating approximately $50,000/year. I expect to minimally duplicate this growth, and likely exceed it by attracting clients from the former business. I have been the Managing Partner of a business providing residential group homes and day services for special needs adults since 2012 in rural Kansas. We support our clients in achieving comfort and independence in their surroundings through customized care and enrichment activities. I LOVE what I do, and I work with some amazing folks who share the difficulties and joys of helping these extraordinary adults. My partner is my ex-husband. I recently discovered he has committed certain improprieties that obligate me to extricate myself from this situation before the legal and financial consequences of his choices catch up with him. In order to do so successfully, I am launching the same business with the same services under a new identity. Having served as the Managing Partner of our jointly-owned business since 2012, I absolutely know how to run this type of enterprise! I also previously owned and operated a five (5) employee cleaning business serving residential, apartment, and commercial businesses for eight (8) years. As an experienced, self-employed professional, I know what I am good at, and I know where I need assistance. This is why I sought the support and partnership of knowledgeable people. I am fortunate to have an experienced business attorney and seasoned business consultant onboard to help me. The business plan is written, the website is up (https://www.teamkellel.com/), mandatory encryption services have been acquired, and I possess all the certifications required by the State to legally own and operate this new business. I am ready to forge ahead! I contribute to my community through the care of “special needs” adults who otherwise would be limited to family support. Through activities, external stimuli, teaching, and support, my care provides a respite for families and an opportunity for growth and development for my clients. This effort extends beyond the limits of Gardner, Kansas, a small rural community outside Kansas City. “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership” https://sdgs.un.org/goals My efforts in this small corner of Kansas, support three (3) of these SDGs: • Good health and well-being for people - ALL people include "special needs" people, an underserved population worldwide. • Sustainable cities and communities - Cities are not sustainable if they do not support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all residents, including those with "special needs." • Partnerships for the goals - We partner with the local community, families, the government, and medical institutions and care providers in service to "special needs" adults. While these efforts may be small in the global community, the mission and vision of Team Kellel, Inc. embrace this care and these commitments.

  • Self Identified Competition

Team Kellel, Inc. operates in a rural community outside Kansas City. As such, local options are few with most options requiring travel back into the metropolitan area. Assuming my ex-husband chooses to continue the operation of our formerly jointly-owned business, he would be the primary competitor. Day service providers may be found here - https://www.jocogov.org/department/community-developmental-disabilities-organization/service-providers/day-supports Residential care operators may be found here - https://www.jocogov.org/department/community-developmental-disabilities-organization/service-providers/adult-residential-supports Team Kellel, Inc. differentiates itself by offering BOTH day services and residential care. The majority of our competitors offer one or the other. By combining these services, we enjoy an economy of scale, the ability to "upgrade" day services to residential care as needed, additional offerings not typically available to residential care clients, plus the experience of a seasoned professional in the field who is also a "mom" caring for her "special needs" son.
