Julie's Daycare 10705 | Government Grant Application

Julie's Daycare | Application Preview

Julie’s Daycare is seeking a government grant to improve its facilities and expand services. The funds would be used to repair the toy room, purchase three cribs, new nap-time mats and blankets, two high chairs, and additional age-appropriate toys to support children's development. Additionally, the outside playground would be upgraded by adding turf under swings and slides.

The business aims to enhance its Early Childhood Education program to offer a preschool curriculum, catering to families who require full-day care due to work schedules. Julie plans to hire a full-time employee during the summer to support a summer program for school-aged children.

The rationale for funding approval emphasizes the increasing demand for quality childcare that is affordable and accessible. Many families struggle to find suitable daycare options, and fewer providers are available to meet this need. Julie’s Daycare operates long hours, opening as early as 5 a.m. and closing at 5 p.m., making it a valuable resource for working families. Despite minimal rate increases over the past 20 years, the cost of childcare remains a concern, impacting families' ability to work.

Julie’s Daycare faces competition from other daycares in the area but differentiates itself by flexible hours, including early openings for commuting parents. The daycare is committed to providing safe, enjoyable, and affordable childcare, and the requested funds will help sustain its operations and better serve the community.

  • Funding Usage

With the funds from the grant, I plan to repair the toy room, and I need to buy three cribs. I will purchase new nap-time mats as well as blankets for the children. I will buy two high chairs and more developmentally age-appropriate toys for different age groups to help build their small and large motor skills. I also would use the funds to fix their outside playground and add turf under the swings and slides.

  • Business Plan

I hope to be able to continue my Early Childhood Education so I can offer a preschool curriculum for families who can not get their child/ren to a preschool and back to daycare due to work hours and for any family who prefers their child to be able to stay in one place during the day. I would also like to add a full-time employee in the summer to help more families by providing a summer program for school kids. You should invest in me because, at this time, it's tough to find childcare. Many families need childcare, and there are not enough daycares to provide childcare for all the families in need. Families with young children need quality childcare so that they may work, and children deserve a quality daycare that can meet all their developmental needs. I help many families by providing long hours, opening at 5 a.m. and closing at 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. I am also very affordable for families. I believe it is essential to our economy to provide affordable care so people can stay in the workforce. A lot of families struggle to pay childcare with the high prices of it today. In the last 20 years that I've owned my daycare, I have only raised rates .50 cents.

  • Self Identified Competition

My in-home daycare, Julie's Daycare, the daycare center Magic Depot, Christy's Daycare also an in-home daycare, and Anita's in-home daycare are the top daycares in our town. All of us have a waiting list. I feel like I am different from my competitors because I am open earlier for parents. Many people have a 30-minute to over an hour commute to their jobs. Onawa is between Omaha, NE, and Sioux City, IA, so many people have positions in the bigger cities and need commuting time. I am flexible with my hours and even open at 4 a.m. some days for people in the medical field who must work very early for surgeries, etc. I have started Early Childhood Education classes in hopes that someday I will be able to incorporate a preschool curriculum into my childcare program. It is important to me to provide quality, safe, fun, and affordable daycare for families, and to do that, I need some financial help, or I will need to raise my rates or close my doors. Both options would hurt the 13 families I provide childcare for and could affect their work status.
