Tia | Application Preview
Tia's grant application focuses on establishing the first Samoan-style restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii. The funding will be used for essential start-up costs, including utility deposits, site renovations, kitchen equipment, ingredients, rent, and potential future labor as the business grows.
The business plan aims to cater to the local Samoan population while also attracting tourists by offering traditional Samoan dishes along with local Hawaiian cuisine. Tia plans to enhance visibility through social media platforms like Instagram, Yelp, and Facebook.
Tia emphasizes the need for funding by highlighting the restaurant’s unique position as the first official Samoan restaurant on Oahu, setting them apart from local grocery-style food offerings. The owners, Siitia and Ronald Crawford, leverage their cultural heritage and culinary experience to create authentic dishes that reflect Samoan traditions. Their mission is to promote Samoan culture through food.
Competition is mainly from grocery stores in the area, which do not offer the same dining experience. Tia believes the restaurant's competitive edge lies in its dedication to quality and authentic Samoan cuisine, with all cooking done by Siitia, who has over 40 years of culinary experience. The business also focuses on community engagement, ensuring affordability and adherence to regulations while meeting the culinary needs of local residents.

Business Plan
We plan to establish ourselves as premier and first Samoan style restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we would like to expand our plate lunch restaurants into catering gigs for the larger tourist industry infrastructures, weddings, celebrations of life, birthdays, and graduations. Having establish ourselves in Hawaii where there is a large Samoan population whose tastes we cater to, we will also expand our menu to include local and Hawaiian cuisine in order to reach a larger audience. We also will establish an online presence through Instagram, Yelp, Facebook and other social media platforms. As the first official Samoan restaurant on Oahu, other sites that sell Samoan food being more grocery store in nature, we bring experience and authenticity to our food products. We are Samoan and locally owned, a restaurant started by Samoan-born Siitia and Ronald Crawford, whose cuisine experience across the Pacific and the Continental United States brings a taste of the Friendly Isles that is both unique and traditional. As a family and Samoan-operated business, we also bring a familiarity of culture and language to both Samoan and local communities of Hawai'i. Our goal is the sharing and propagation of Samoan culture through food!

Self Identified Competition
We know only of the Talofa Polynesian Market in Kalihi, Sunny's Market in Liliha, and Tammy's Polynesian Market in Waipahu. All three are more catered to grocery operations and our owned by non-Samoan investors. As a family and Samoan-operated business, we also bring a familiarity of culture and language to both Samoan and local communities of Hawai'i. Our business is strictly restaurant and cuisine, so we take pride and great care in the food we make, our food is based on traditional and modern-day recipes and prepared through a mixture of traditional and modern-day methods. Every item on our menu is personally cooked and supervised by Siita Crawford, whose experience stems from over 40 years of Samoan and non-Samoan cooking across the Pacific and the continental US. We also care about the communities we serve, assuring the taste of our products, adhering to all sanitary and business regulations, and adjusting the menu to serve their needs that are affordable. By approaching our business as a community-based service, we believe that we can abide by the goal of sharing our Samoan culture through food.
